You’re not alone

Do You Want To Feel More Confident and Secure?

Low self-esteem treatment is possible and therapy is an effective first step towards living a life that feels good again. Low self-esteem can affect many facets of your life that are important to you such as your career, your relationships, your health, and even your ability to function. You don’t have to navigate this experience alone. Self-esteem therapy will help you identify and manage the underlying causes and stressors - so that you can gain more control and feel more confident and secure.

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem is what we feel, believe, and think about ourselves. It’s not just about whether we like ourselves or not, it’s also about being able to give yourself love, respect, dignity. Self-esteem is fluid and can fluctuate depending on external circumstances such as your manager’s feedback on a project (your work environment), the pressure of seeing seemingly “perfect” influencers on Instagram (media), the support you get from your loved ones (friends and family), or how chaotic your household was growing up (childhood).

What Does Healthy Self-Esteem Look Like?

Those who experience low levels of self-esteem typically tend to dwell on past negative experiences, experience low levels of confidence, have a negative view of self and the external world around them (ex. I don’t deserve to be successful because I’m a failure), insecure, have a hard time setting boundaries, struggle with speaking up for themselves, are more likely to engage in people-pleasing and experience burnout.

Those who have healthy levels of self-esteem tend to focus on the present, have a healthy level of confidence (not showing arrogance), have a positive view of themselves and the external world around them (ex. speaking to oneself in a loving, kind, and respectful way) are more likely to speak up for oneself, secure in their abilities and identity, set healthy boundaries, and have a growth mindset (believing that their abilities can be improved with effort, learning, and persistence).

Where Does Self-Esteem Come From?

Self-esteem can be affected by a number of factors including your work environment, family & friends, and media. Though these areas have a big influence on your self-esteem (and our self-esteem evolves throughout our life span), research has found that our childhood is the biggest factor for self-esteem development. If you find that you have low-self esteem, you might relate to some of the following childhood experiences: being harshly criticized, bullied, held to high standards, not allowed to “fail”, being emotionally, physically, or sexually abused, being ignored or ridiculed.

This is of course only a few possibilities and everyone’s self-esteem journey and development will look different. Therapy is a safe space to explore these experiences, process emotions, and create a path towards feeling more confident, present, and secure. It’s possible to feel better about yourself and your place in the world. You don’t have to navigate it alone, we’ll walk alongside you.

How Can Therapy for Self-Esteem Help Me?

A trained therapist will support you and help you challenge negative thoughts, process challenging experiences, identify and develop strengths, foster self-compassion, build up self-esteem and self-worth, and help you reconnect your mind and body so you can feel more present, feel happy emotions, and feel more confident.

With time, you can develop the skills you need to identify and make choices to live in alignment with your values, communicate needs, and feel less resentment and fear. This can look like practicing boundary setting, assertive communication skills, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and dedicating time to taking care of yourself in new ways. Together, we’ll create a toolbox of skills and practice techniques that get you results. Healing is possible. Confidence is possible. We believe in you and will cheer you on every step of the way as we support you on the journey towards feeling like your best self. You’ve got this!
